Matt is a Director at Statera Capital and leads Statera’s investment underwriting, diligence, and monitoring processes.  He also acts as Statera’s Deputy General Counsel. 

Matt is widely respected as a leader in litigation finance and strategic partner to lawyers and clients involved in complex litigation.  In 2022, Lawdragon named him one of the Global 100 Leaders in Litigation Finance.  Matt joined Statera from Williams & Connolly LLP, one of the world’s premier litigation law firms, where he practiced general civil litigation for 10 years.  He is an experienced and accomplished lawyer who has represented numerous clients in high-stakes cases across the US and internationally.  Super Lawyers named him a Rising Star every year from 2014 to 2019.  Before joining Williams & Connolly, Matt clerked for Judge Karen LeCraft Henderson on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

Matt’s experience provides him with a unique understanding of the challenges inherent in litigation, and his perspective is frequently sought by lawyers and clients. 

Matt earned a B.A. from Stanford University and a J.D. from Vanderbilt Law School.  At Vanderbilt, Matt graduated in the Order of the Coif, served on the Law Review, and received several scholastic awards, including the Cecil D. Branstetter Award for extraordinary achievement in the study of litigation and dispute resolution.  Matt also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Vanderbilt Law School, where he teaches a course on commercial litigation finance.
